What is a Doula
Doula comes from ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves.” It has now come to mean someone who is trained and experienced in helping women through pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum. As a Doula, my job – my passion – is to serve you as you start your journey into motherhood. I provide educational, emotional and physical support for you and your partner.
- 31% decrease in the use of Pitocin

“If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it” – Dr. John H. Kennell
“Dude-la” (for the partners)
Imagine the birth of your child where you are able to focus completely on your partner, not worry about the new sounds and sights or if what you are doing is the ‘best’ for the new mom and if you are remembering everything from the books you read and classes you took. As a doula, my job isn’t to replace you but to support you. I will help lead you to support your new mom as much as you feel comfortable. I will also have my experience and training to help provide extra tools and bring an environment of relaxation and calmness.
My desire for your birth is that you find a doula that you are comfortable with and love. You are about to allow someone to be joined with you on a sacred journey of becoming a mother. This is why I find it an honor when I am asked to be someone’s doula, and also why I offer free consolations so we have a chance to get to know each other before deciding if we are a good fit for each other.
Once we have had a consultation and you have decided to hire me, we will have one more prenatal visit around 38 weeks. During this time I will help you look at your birth preferences, go over some comfort measures and talk about procedures for contacting me once you are in labor.
At 38 weeks until the baby is born I will be on-call for your birth. Once you are in labor I will join you when active labor starts, or sooner if you feel you need me. I will stay with you all through labor and delivery and make sure you are settled with your new bundle of joy; breastfeeding as well, if you so desire before I leave you to rest.
I will also come and visit you postpartum and be available to you via phone and email for any questions after the baby is born.
